Thrift Store Find

Had to share my good fortune from earlier this week!! I go to our local thrift stores about once every two weeks. There are 4 here in town. We have been looking for more seating for our living room for quite awhile and just haven't found anything we liked. I was at the Salvation Army and came across this gem. I don't think this sofa has ever been sat on, it had been professionally cleaned, is a Lazyboy, and was...$80.00. I couldn't believe it. Thank goodness I brought the truck with me that day. Getting it into my house was an experience, Keith made a call and had some friends from the local rescue squad come help me. I love having a firefighter/emt hubby...comes in handy all the time. :) Isn't she gorgeous!!??

Oh, and did I mention that my sofa is featured on the front page of the Lazyboy ad on sale from $949 to $649...yeah, no thanks. Score!!

Consignment Sale Stash = Fabulous Day!!

So after about 1.5 hours of sleep my friend and I headed out to the first consignment sale of the day at 6am...I am so not a morning person. Add in the fact that I had little sleep, I was a tad slap happy. Anywho, I did well here. I've discovered that, at least with boys, the bigger the kid gets, the less stuff there is in their size. I did get a few things for Chris and quite a few things for Sophie. Got her a couple pairs of adorable shoes, a diaper bag (loved this!!), 2 backpacks for our road trips (Batman for little man, and Minnie Mouse for baby girl), a playmat which Sophie loves...I had a great time.

Once I returned home I woke Keith up and dragged him to another sale in town. Got some more clothes for Chris and Sophie, and an amazing Batman car/playset for Chris. Good day all around!! Here is my stash:

Consignment Sales Round 2

We started our annual tour of the spring consignment sales in our area this past Saturday. Can I just say how fabulous these things are??!! There are 3 main ones I normally hit. St. Theresa's Catholic Consignment in Ashburn (this one is great for boy toys). MOPS in ashburn (we have always consigned at this one and have had huge success), and one at the National Guard Armory here in town...I will have to look this one up, I can't remember the name of this one (this one is a 3 day event)

This year, we have added to more to the mix. My Child's Closet at Douglas Community Center, and Dani's Duds at the Expo center. I am especially excited for the one at the expot center for the size of it because that place is huge!!

Today we have the mops sale. Keith and I volunteered last night and had a great time, we always do. We had signed up to help with large items, but I got shifted over to books. Which was fin, I love books! Slight rant here...I understand that, as a consigner, you have a ton of things to bring in and go thru. I would be happy to help you put your books in the appropriate catagory (these are no brainers people...disney books are anything disney, American girl goes with american girl, etc). Please don't make my job that much harder by completely ignoring these catagories and just throwing books on the shelf...that means I have to go thru all the shelves and reorganize...end rant.

I saw a bunch of stuff and myself and a friend will be shopping bright and early at 6:30 am....boo on the time! Keith and I are also going to hit the one at Douglas later today...if you haven't noticed, I am writing this post as it is going to happen today...it is 3am and I am wide awake. Thank goodness Keith is off and can take care of the kiddos because I know I am going to crash.

I'll post again with pix of our haul!!

Cute Kiddos

I took these photos last Sunday after church since I thought they looked so darn adorable. Chris had a big day. He had to "read" a scripture in Primary. In Dec he had to give a talk and that did not go over well at all. This time he was super quiet, but repeated everything I said. So proud of him! Mac and cheese for lunch as reward.

Keith asked me the other day, "Have you seen Chris do that thing with his eyes?? Where did he pick that up?" I knew exactly where he picked it up...me of course. Lol! I teach my son all the important things in life, crossing your eyes, how to make it look like an alien is coming out of your shirt, etc. All important life skills...:) I know all these are going to backfire at some point, but for now we are having a ton of fun!

Sophie is still a champion chewer...this is her most current "toy". She cracks me up when she zones in on this elephant...the tail is her favorite. She absolutely loves it...and I made it. That makes me happy too!! Win win all around!

Quick and Easy Projects

I had two projects (along with a million other things) I wanted to get done this week. One was to reupholster my mother-in-law's chair. I love this woman dearly which is important since she lives with us, but there are just some things about her I will never understand. This chair being one of them. She's lived with us for 4 years because of some health issues and we feel she couldn't make it on her own. No biggie, we enjoy having her around.

She has a house in Winchester that is packed full of "stuff". The "stuff" has sat there for 4 years. This past month we HAD to go get this computer chair she had in her bedroom. Here is what it looked like before I did anything to it...ick, gross, etc!! Needs some major major help!!

After being steam cleaned and using a half a bottle of febreeze I went through my fabric stash and found this great vibrant flower print. I have to say, I love how it turned out!!

Project #2

I have a love of shoes...no denying it! I wanted some glitter high heels that I saw, but I am a very frugal person (not stingy...frugal). I'm not paying $50 for a pair of gold glitter shoes. So... I ended up going to the thrift store and found the heinously awful olive green monstrosities...

...got some fabric glue and a ton of glitter and recreated them myself. After the glue dried with the glitter, I sprayed the shoes with an clear finishing spray and they have held up very well. Here is my finished product!! Oh, please disregard the dirty sock in the background :)

Family Saturday

This past week has been super super busy. Keith has worked a ton of hours (by ton I mean 86 hours) this week alone; 48 of which was overtime which is awesome for us money wise. He's such a fabulous provider for our family!!

Anyway, Last Saturday was great fun for us. Keith coaches the Young Men's basketball team for our church and we all headed out to his game. They didn't win, and me being a very competitive person, had some issues with some of the things that went on, but I did behave myself while there...and proceeded to rant to Keith about some of the "injustices" that I saw later. :) It was so funny to watch Keith get antsy during the game. He always makes sure that everyone plays and the boys seem to really enjoy themselves.

Afterwards we headed over to our local mall and got lunch, played and shopped for a little bit. While we were at lunch, and very nice lady gave us her extra ticket for the carousel. Chris wanted to do the spinny cup which is of course my favorite after lunch (insert sarcasm).

Sophie's Baby Blessing

We gave little Sophie a name and a blessing at church on Sunday. It was such fun!! My dad gave her the blessing and it was adorable...he always comes up with the most interesting things. He blessed her that she would have an amazing smile, a shining personality, kindness, love, much happiness, great relationship with us and Chris, be strong in the church, and FUN in life.

If you know us we are a prime example of people having fun in life...I think she's in the right spot :)! She was so darn cute with her little outfit that I found at the thrift store (win for me!)! We had 9 in the circle, and from what Keith said she was smiling the entire time and having a ball.

We got to spend time with my parents after church which was so fun. My mom made her wonderful and amazing lasagna...talk about mouth watering. I kinda overcooked the garlic bread, but it was still good and I even got Chris to eat a little of it. Little man is strickly a peanut butter and honey/mac & cheese guy. This past week we have been working really hard on having him try other food and have been pretty successful.

Sophie has started teething this past week and has turned into a complete drool monster, finally had to break out the bibs. She chews on everything, especially her hands!! She's thankfully taking it in stride and is pretty happy most of the time.

We've been pretty busy too! Keith has been working a ton of overtime, which is great on our pocketbooks. I have been getting everything ready for the consignment sale we cosign at that is coming up at the end of March. It amazes me every spring and fall at the amount of random stuff and clothes we come up with to let go of. Unreal!
